Contiki is an integral part of project management taking care of contracts towards the client, internal contracts, partner contracts (alliances/joint ventures) and subcontracts as applicable. There are several project management systems on the market, however Contiki is the system being ideal to manage contractural changes during projects.

 

 

VARIATIONS AND AMENDMENTS

Cost control and especially controlling cost creep is essential to any project. Contiki holds an extensive functionality to control your claims for compensation against a client, the assessment of how likely it is that the client will pay it and a conversion into variation orders if accepted. All supporting documentation, including letters, notes, images, video clips etc. are kept associated with the claim. The system tracks all claims received from subcontractors, links such claims to processed variation orders, make a risk assessment on the quality and justifications of claims and link-up all supporting documentation involved in the process. The system will monitor all critical dates associated with these activities.

The purpose of this function is to make the estimated final cost on a project transparent as early as possible. This facility will then prevent that potential overruns come as a surprise and will allow the organisation to implement counter measures at the earliest stage possible in cases where overruns can be expected.

MILESTONES/MONITORING/ALERTS

Contiki may notify all personnel needing an alert message for e.g. a milestone, an action, a process to be started, payment to be made etc. Everybody having an e-mail address may be notified through ordinary e-mail. This may also include automatic issue of reminders to subcontractors, clients etc. For example, the system may issue e-mails to clients reminding them to return bank guarantees at the expiry date. It is also possible to set up Contiki to automatically launch a reminder to subcontractors at the beginning of each month in order to instruct them on activities they should perform e.g. to report progress.

 

DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT IS NO LONGER A BURDEN

By implementing the Contiki system, there will be less risk of conflicts and your case would be stronger if such should surface. Documentation is made automatically because you just work with all your standard applications from Contiki, thus leaving the control and audit trail with Contiki.Just imagine the conflict between Esso and Smedvig on the Balder project. The Smedvig claim against Esso was for 290 MUSD. The counter claim against Smedvig was for 450 MUSD. There were more than 50.000 documents in the filing sent to the court. The initial assessment concluded that the legal cost to Smedvig would be in excess of US$ 11 million. It was estimated that legal costs would incur more than US$ 30 million in total. Using Contiki would have cut such costs dramatically.
