User interface

Like an increasing number of modern software packages, Contiki has a dual user interface consisting of a web user interface and a windows user interface. The philosophy has been to take full advantage of available technology by selecting the interface that is best suited to the purpose of each of the supported functionalities in the system. The important issue here is accessibility – worldwide. By design, the Contiki application is always accessible via hyper text transfer protocol (http) so that use of Windows or WEB is predominantly an issue of user interface.

Contiki has been built applying the same operational philosophy as MS Office. The user interface has been made more or less identical to MS Outlook 2003, with the objective of keeping the user learning threshold as low as possible. Users familiar with MS Outlook and/or MS Explorer will immediately know how to operate many of the basic functions.

Contiki decided not to produce its own proprietary word processor and utilizes all the benefits of MS Office. This strategy was reaffirmed with the introduction of the MS Office 2003 or 2007 suite which is XML based. Contiki has been able to take full advantage of all its investments in MS Word.
