About the Department of Research Management
The Department of Research Management (Forskningsavdelingen) provides service and support to the University of Bergen's (UiB) central management, the faculties, departments, research groups and individuals. It reports directly to the University Director.
The department deals with research strategy issues and prepares policy documents for the University Board and the University Research Committee. It works closely with the University Director, the Rector and the Deans of UiB’s six faculties on strategy issues concerning research and research funding, PhD education and mobility as well as on international relations and collaboration. It acts as a link to national and international councils, funding agencies and collaboration partners namely in connection with initiatives by the Research Council of Norway and the EU Framework programme. In addition to EU funding, the international dimension includes administering UiB's bilateral university cooperation agreements and participation in programmes, networks and organisations worldwide.
The department is also responsible for the data archive for scientific publications.
Day-to-day research administrative services cover a broad range of tasks, from assistance in initiating and preparing project proposals for Norwegian and international bodies to issues related to mobility, budgeting, contract negotiations, commercialisation and intellectual property rights. At the same time, the Department of Research Management provides services to Unifob AS, a non-profit research organisation for externally-funded research, which is owned by the University of Bergen.
